Rackham School of Graduate Studies

915 E. Washington St., Ann Arbor, MI 48109

One of the most beautiful buildings on the U-M campus, the Rackham Building houses the offices of Rackham Graduate School, from which the school administers graduate, certificate, and dual-degree programs. The focus of the building, which was constructed of Indiana limestone, is the 1,200-seat lecture hall on the main floor. Like the smaller amphitheatre on the top floor, the auditorium is classically Greek, with an intertwining gold-leaf Art Deco pattern on the ceiling. The Rackham Building is across from Ingalls Mall and its surrounding buildings, the Modern Languages Building, Burton Tower, Hill Auditorium and the Michigan League.

One of the most beautiful buildings on campus, Rackham was designed by one of Albert Kahn's former students, William E. Kapp, of Smith Hinchman Grylls, then as now one of Detroit’s largest architectural firms.
